The 2025 Mentorship Program Brings New Perks!

If you have a story idea you've been working on, this is your chance to refine and develop it with expert guidance.

This year’s illustrator mentor is Penelope Dullaghan, a celebrated artist known for her ability to convey joy through vibrant form and color. With experience in children’s publishing, editorial, and advertising, Penelope works across a variety of mediums—including printmaking, painting, and cut paper. Her work is characterized by its simplicity and rooted in curiosity. She creates from her studio in Indianapolis, where she lives with her writer husband and artist-in-training teen. To learn more about her, visit her website at: https://www.penelopedullaghan.com/about.

The mentorship offers so much for emerging children’s writers! Breaking into publishing is no small feat, and having a mentor can be invaluable. This year’s program has been refreshed to provide even more benefits. Even if you don’t win, the application process itself is a worthwhile experience. Personally, I’ve applied every year since

joining SCBWI-MI, and each time, I've learned so much through the application steps.

If you’re interested in applying, check out the SCBWI Michigan Mentorship homepage for details.
