Workshops

Zine Your Scene

In this hands-on 1-hour workshop, participants will use a variety of tools - both analog and digital to create a zine. Participants will focus their zine on a sequence where the character or characters engage in actions or dialogue that move the story forward.

By the end of this session, writers will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between setting and scene;

  • Use a range of tools, such as digital platforms (e.g. Google Slides, Canva) or multimedia traditional materials such as pen, ink, crayon, and collage.

Transit Maps: Getting Around in Your Character's World

In this hands-on session, you will focus on how your character gets around in their world.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Describe, at a very high level, your character’s setting;

  • Use a variety of media to create a visual map of your character’s world; and

  • Describe at least one (1) mode of transportation used by a character to get around within that world.
